Common themes and tropes in works of folk horror include a rural setting, a supernatural entity associated with the natural environment, and worship of or sacrifice to this entity.

The term "folk horror" means roughly a dark, creepy and eerie, if not outrightly horrifying, folkloric aesthetic originally present in films such as The Blood on Satan's Claw [Satan's Skin] and The Wicker Man, but has expanded to apply to music and literature as well.
